about unveil film school 

Unveil Studios Summer Filmmaking Camp is designed for beginners, up to advanced filmmakers. The 1-week Filmmaking course features a track for Ages 11-14, 15-19 and 20-29 years. Hosted at The Creator Space in beautiful Comox Valley, BC (Vancouver Island) along the river at 2201 Robert Lang Drive. Summer Filmmaking Camp runs from 9AM-430PM, July 4-8, 2017.

The Kooman brothers of Unveil Studios designed the training around their journey in independent filmmaking (learn more at From documentary to dramatic script writing, learn how to light a set, direct the action, capture sound and picture, and edit the footage into a compelling story. At the end of this one-week filmmaking camp, participants will have a whole new set of tools for storytelling.

Hands-On workshops accelerate learning! The Filmmaking Camp fee includes training and hands-on workshops with professional digital HD equipment, lighting and sound gear, and professional editing suites. Post-production will include training and overview of Final Cut X, Premiere Pro and Da Vinci Resolve. The Filmmaking Camp workshops are taught by working filmmakers and professional mentors.

Room & Board option is available for up to 20 participants with our friendly host families, and is also a great way to get to know other filmmakers. A DVD of the completed Filmmaking Camp short films is available for purchase by all participants (mailed after the Film Camp).

Each day features group exercises and lessons in the morning, with breakouts for the different age groups and levels of filmmakers in the afternoon. Mentors are assigned to each team to maximize their learning and develop their short films. Buckle up, a lot of learning and hands-on production is going to happen in 5 days! Hands-on training is our focus, as we want you to learn how to operate camera equipment, use lighting, operate sound gear, direct the story, edit and learn post-production.

day one: story structure

Lessons: Story Structure, Scripting and Storyboarding. Short film teams will be assigned.

Breakout: Pre-production focus on story development and teams begin to workshop and write their short film ideas.

day two: camera & location scouting

Lessons: Locations, Production Roles and Camera Part One

Breakout: Teams work to finalize their script by end of day two. Location scouting begins.

day three: production

Lessons: Lighting, Camera Part Two, Sound, Production Roles Part Two

Breakout: Teams Shoot their Short Films (review footage before end of day)

day four: wrap production, start post-production

Lessons: Editing Part One (Timeline, Media Management, Rough cut), Editing Part Two (Final cut, Music, Sound FX)

Breakout: Final Production shots (Splinter unit), Editing begins. Some teams may need to stay late on Day Four for Editing.

day five: wrap post & screen!

Morning: Wrap the edit, export and finish
